A New Way to Experience the Stories

About Echoes

Every song in Echoes begins with a story. Each is inspired by the books, characters, experiences, and other writings of Pete Nunweiler. The lyrics are either written by Pete or developed under his creative direction from his stories, ideas, and words.

The music and vocals are created using Suno AI, transforming those words and stories into another way to experience them.

Echoes: Book 1

Every story leaves something behind.

Echoes: Book 1 is a collection of original songs inspired by my stories—the characters, relationships, memories, fears, and moments that linger long after the final page.

Some songs return to a specific moment. Others explore the emotions beneath the story. Each is another way to step inside the worlds I've created.

The stories are already written. Now hear their echoes.

Echoes: Book 1 Behind the Songs

My Little World

I wrote My Little World as a senior in high school, never realizing how much of it would become a premonition of the person I would eventually become. It was an invitation to enter into the Common, the Personal, and all that lies beyond. When I rediscovered it while creating Echoes, those words took on an entirely new meaning. Something I wrote decades ago had somehow found its way back to me—and became the perfect place for Echoes to begin.

The Forever House

Inspired by the entire story of The Ghost Between Us, The Forever House isn't meant to retell the novel. I think of it more as an auditory back-cover summary—a powerful, haunting track that captures the love, loss, mystery, and darkness at the heart of the story. One of my favorite moments comes when the main character calls into the air, “Where are you?” and hears the answer, “I’m right here beside you... as always.” For me, that exchange captures what The Ghost Between Us has always been about: sometimes the people we lose aren't as far away as we think.

Memories of Once Upon a Time

The poem that opens the prologue of The Ghost Between Us found its way through the echoes of time and became a powerful rock ballad of its own. Those words were Toby's introduction to love, loss, and the memories that refuse to fade. The opening words of The Ghost Between Us needed a chorus.

Now they have one.

Faded Photograph

Inspired by Room 23, Faded Photograph is a Southern country ballad about the relationship between the story's two main characters. There's a slight spoiler hidden within the song, but much like the opening chapters of Room 23, it reaches beyond their relationship to establish the events that will echo throughout the entire trilogy.

The Day I Crossed a Line

Inspired by John Wolfe, the protagonist of Room 23, The Day I Crossed a Line is John's personal anthem. It's a powerful rock song with the kind of arena-sized chorus that begs you to sing along. The song captures the man John becomes when he's pushed beyond the limits of what he's willing to accept—and what happens when he finally decides to cross the line.

Strength Comes in Many Forms

Inspired by my memoir, One Hundred Seventy Days, this heartbreaking pop-country song comes from the worst 170 days of my life. Anyone who has experienced the loss of a parent will understand that strength doesn't always look the way we expect it to. Sometimes it's a steady hand. Sometimes it's belief. And sometimes, strength looks a lot like falling apart. Most of these songs have become echoes of stories and memories for me. This one hasn't. Those days still shout in my mind sometimes.

The First Step

Inspired by the success principles in How Much Water Do We Have? 5 Success Principles to Conquer Any Challenge and Thrive in Times of Change, The First Step is an arena-sized anthem about moving forward when you have no idea where to begin. You don't need to see the entire path—you just have to move, because if you never take that first step, you'll still be standing exactly where you are today. And if you're scared, do it afraid. Just do it the best you can.

Always Listening

Inspired by my haunting tech thriller, Virtual Assistant, Always Listening is an electric alternative rock song that plays directly into the fears many of us have about smart-home technology. We invite it into our homes for convenience, trusting it to listen only when we want it to. But what happens when it never stops? If you invite it inside, it may end up everywhere.

I Wonder What It Feels Like

The title character of The Ghost Between Us finally gets a song of her own. Once the novel reveals Sara as the lonely spirit who has haunted the Forever House for a year, this haunting pop ballad turns the story around and lets us experience that existence from her point of view. Paranormal investigators spend countless hours trying to answer the question of what happens after we die. But what about the entity they're trying to reach? What is it like for them? What does it feel like to be the ghost between us?

Memories of Once Upon a Time (Haunted Remix)

Echoes: Book 1 returns to where it began. Earlier in the album, Memories of Once Upon a Time turns the poem that opens The Ghost Between Us into a powerful rock ballad. The Haunted Remix takes those same words and pulls them somewhere darker, transforming memory into something far more unsettling. The words haven't changed. The echo has.
